About me
My name is Vicki Garcia, and I've spent the last 24 years working in public education, with 18 of those years in school finance. I've had the opportunity to work in districts ranging from about 6,000 students to 35,000 students, which has given me experience with a variety of district sizes, challenges, and operations.
My career started at the campus level as an Attendance Clerk and later a Principal’s Secretary at an elementary school. I then moved to central administration, serving as the Administrative Assistant to the Chief Technology Officer before transitioning into school finance.
Today, I serve as the Executive Director of Financial Operations, a role I have held for the past 8½ years. During that time, I have focused on improving financial processes, increasing efficiencies, and helping staff navigate systems and procedures more effectively.
I've been a PowerSchool ERP (eFinancePLUS) user for all but five years of my career in public education. I enjoy finding ways to use technology to streamline processes and improve the user experience. In my current district, much of my work has centered on identifying opportunities for automation and creating more efficient business office workflows.
One of the most rewarding, and challenging, projects I've worked on has been implementing Advanced Workflow for approvals. It's been a three-year journey, but we are now fully using Advanced Workflow for requisition and journal entry approvals, and we're currently working toward implementing accounts payable approvals. Next on our roadmap are employee reimbursements and budget transfers. It's been exciting to see these improvements take shape and create efficiencies that benefit employees across the district.
I enjoy collaborating with others, solving problems, and finding practical ways to make processes work better. My background in campus operations, technology, and finance has given me a unique perspective that helps me connect people, processes, and systems to support the overall success of the district.
